Best Songs of 2014

I love yearly round ups and reviews. Really brings back memories of the last year and gives me something to look back on in the years to come.

The Best Songs Of 2014

Taken from Helene In Between, here is my list of stand out songs of 2014.

1. Budapest – George Ezra

I love this song because it came out just before I embarked on a short trip to Budapest. SO relevant! Plus it was nice to find a new artist, doesn’t happen all that often if I’m honest!

2. Dangerous Love – Fuse ODG

I looooove this song! Just makes me want to dance around and always puts me in a good mood. Totally want to learn the choreography that they do in this fan made video. Just too cool.

3. Walking With Elephants – Ten Walls

Just reminds me of our Ibiza holiday in September. This song was just everywhere!

4. Waze & Odyssey vs R Kelly – Bump and Grind 2014

Probably one of the hippiest remixes I’ve heard. So much better than the original. Again, just makes me want to belt out the words and dance around like a nutter.

5. Changing – Paloma Faith ft Sigma

The lyrics really speak to me in this song. Although I try my best to be a positive person, it’s been a pretty tough year to be honest. A change in jobs, my Nan passing away and dating failures have all made me feel pretty low at times. Just as I build myself up, something else comes along and knocks me down again. This song takes these changes, the good and bad, and makes me feel positive about the changes that have happened and how we need to just let it all go once in a while.

6. Gecko (Overdrive) – Oliver Heldens

I love the beat drops in this banger of a song. Plus the video is TOTES INAPPROPES but I can’t help watching it every time it’s on.

7. Stolen Dance – Milky Chance

I don’t know why I like this song so much. I guess I heard it when life started turning back around again and always makes me smile and sway along when I hear it.

8. Shake It Off – Taylor Swift

I don’t think I’ve seen a ‘Best Of’ list without this song being on it to be honest. There’s good reason for that. It’s awsome. I just cannot help but blast it loud and sing along with Taylor every time it comes on! I guess cause the dating side of things have been very up and down too, it just makes me think ‘screw it!’ and gives me the opportunity to Shake It Off without looking like too much of a twonk.

9. Heroes – Alesso

I first heard this song on the radio on my way to work where I was about to embark on 3 night shifts, knowing that we had a patient that was on the verge of passing away at any moment. Which they did on my third night. Even though it was expected, it was still heart-wrenching and this song just speaks out to me and says you know what, we’re all only human and we can only do the best we can do. People expect doctors and nurses to be miracle workers, where in fact, this is far from the case. There’s always things that are going to happen which are out of our control and finding ways of dealing with that. You know you can’t fix everything, but you sure as hell are going to give it your best shot and that’s what counts right?

10. Figure It Out – Royal Blood

I only just discovered these guys before heading to XFMs Winter Wonderland on the 17th of this month. I just love how deep and grungy they sound coming from just two guys! It’s nice to find a new rock band I like, seems lately I’ve been getting more and more into dance and forgetting about my rockier side. Or maybe dance music is just better at the moment. Ehh.

Hope everyone has an awsome Christmas and a banging New Year. Roll on 2015!

* I don’t know if I’m going to get another blog post out before the year is out, hence the above..!*

Till next time!
Gem x
